Circus Stripe Bonnet

Here's the inspiration  + Nelly Olsen's hat

Equals:

Here's a bonnet, my little girl needed to protect her pretty complexion. I jazzed it up a bit because I truly believe that frumpy, dull hats lead to snotty little girls. Case in point: the above mentioned Nelly Olsen.

Here's how you do it.

1) Cut out patterns like below. Two brim pieces, one in your accent color (stripes in my case). 1 back piece. 1 piece of accent edging for brim. 1 piece of chin strap.

2) stitch brim edging to one side of brim. Pucker it as you stitch.

3) Sew top side of brim onto already edged brim piece. Rights sides together. I also added the chin strap in here.

4) Flip right side out and topstitch. If you don't know what that is, best to just skip this part. It's a detail. Next. sew to back piece. Again, right sides together. Gather back piece as you go.

Cut 4 inch piece of elastic and stitch to base of back piece. Add embelishments, like flowers.
